Robert D. Kelly Sr., age 76, of Mt. Vernon, passed away Monday, July 14, 2014, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon.
Robert was born April 11, 1938, in Dahlgren, a son of Albert Kelly and Maude (Apgar) Kelly. He married Vicki (Laswell) on Nov. 11, 2011, in Mt. Vernon; she survives in Mt. Vernon.
Bob was of the Christian faith. Mr. Kelly worked for the railroad for over 20 years. He later worked for General Tire in Mayfield, Ky., from 1973 until his move to Mt. Vernon, where he helped open the plant in Mt. Vernon. He retired from Continental Tire in Mt. Vernon in 1995. He loved watching St. Louis Cardinals Baseball, spending time with the grandkids and his dog, Chapman.
He is survived by his wife, Vicki Kelly of Mt. Vernon; a son, Dean Kelly and wife Amy of Dahlgren; stepchildren Sara Flanigan and husband Larry of Mt. Vernon, Charles Wheeler and wife Beth of McLeansboro, Melvin Miller and wife Connie (Niece) of Belle Rive and Davi Collins and husband John of Mt. Vernon; grandchildren Tyler Kelly, Michelle Flanigan, Maycee Rose Flanigan, Jordan Wheeler, Jadelyn Wheeler, Wyatt Sledge, Zach Wheeler, Cameron Wheeler, Chad Miller, Darian Miller, Kaycee Collins, Erica Collins, Jonathan Collins, Devan Furlow and Jessica Rodenhofer; and a great-grandson, Declan Prince.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife LeAnn Kelly; three brothers, Olin, Ralph and Don Kelly; and a sister, Roseann Thomas.
A celebration of life will be held 4 p.m. Saturday, July 19, at Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with pastor Bud Sefried officiating. A reception will follow at the Kelly home. The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. until the service time at the funeral home on Saturday.
