Eli Hook, 103, of McLeansboro, passed away 9:20 a.m. Thursday, July 17, 2014, at Hamilton Memorial Nursing Center in McLeansboro.
He was born Dec. 7, 1910, in Dahlgren, the son of Levi Hook and Elizabeth (Bond) Hook. He married Ruth Alice Duryea on Aug. 17, 1946, in St. Louis.
He was a sexton foreman with Anheuser Busch Railway in St. Louis. He was a member of Blooming Grove Baptist Church. Eli taught Sunday school for 15 years at Blooming Grove Church. He was a member of Blooming Grove Church since 1970 and was a trustee for 27 years. He was a past life member of Polk Lodge 137 A.F. & A.M. for 44 years and a past master/member of Scottish Rite Bodies of Belleville, Ainad Shriner of Ainad Temle of East St. Louis. He loved to fish, hunt and camp.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Hook of McLeansboro; two sons, Eli Hook, Jr. and wife Joyce of McLeansboro and Ralph Price and wife Verna of Granite City; one daughter, Janet Lientz and husband Monte of Terre Haute, Ind.; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 32 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sons, Charles Price, George Hook and Harold Hook; two brothers, Wilburn and Alfred Hook; two sisters, Doris Orr and Lucy Johnson; and grandsons, Donald Hook and David Price.
Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday until the time of service at Blooming Grove Baptist Church in McLeansboro.
Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Blooming Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Josh Gottman officiating. Burial will be at Blooming Grove Cemetery in McLeansboro.
