McLEANSBORO — — Roy Eugene Sanders, 86, of McLeansboro, died 12:50 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro.
He was born Jan. 5, 1927, in Baskin, La., the son of Jesse Sanders and Virgie East. He married Dorothy Flannigan in Oceola, Ark., on June 30, 1951; she survives in McLeansboro.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Kirk Sanders and wife Linda of McLeansboro, Jay Sanders and wife Stephanie of McLeansboro and Gary Sanders and wife Geisele of McLeansboro; eight grandchildren, Jacob, Caleb, Jessie Levi, Cory Michael and Melanie Claire Sanders, Amelia Arvin, Joni Renee and Justin Dean Jones; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Delores Potter of Rockland, Calif.; a brother-in-law, Danny Flannigan and wife Janet of McLeansboro; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James Sanders.
Mr. Sanders was a truck driver and Teamster. He was a Baptist by faith. He was a master tinkerer. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman First Class during World War II.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hare Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Robert Sefried officiating. Burial will be at Prospect Cemetery, southeast of McLeansboro.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
