Robert Ray “Bobby” Lane, 71, of Mt. Vernon, died 1:44 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at his home in Mt. Vernon. He was born Tuesday, Sept. 2, 1941, in Waltonville, the son of Virgil and Lela G. (Green) Lane. He married Ann Hartwig in 1962, in Chicago, and she preceded him in death in March 1990.
Bobby was a machinist for Illinois Tool Works. He was a multi-instrumentalist and very active in the Chicago music scene and made many friends including Minnie Pearl, Salty Holmes and many more. His parents were very proud of his musical abilities. He was of the Catholic faith. He is survived by his daughter, Anita Gorsuch of Kenosha, Wis.; son, Brian Lane of Round Lake; grandchildren, Donald Springer of Salem, Wis., James Kubisiak of Hales Corner, Wis. and Wayne Husko of Lindenhurst; and several cousins, Harry Green of Waltonville, Harriet Rathe of Waltonville and Connie Pritchard of Mt. Vernon. He was preceded in death by his parents; a stepsister, Kathryn Rainey; an infant brother; seven uncles; and two aunts.
Graveside memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Knob Prairie Cemetery in Waltonville. Interment will be at Knob Prairie Cemetery in Waltonville. Mr. Lane will be cremated and there will be no visitation.
