Fred L. Glenn, age 79, of Mt. Vernon, and a former resident of Rockford, died at 11:20 a.m. Thursday, July 25, 2013, at Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor.
Fred was born Aug. 6, 1933, in rural Dahlgren in Hamilton County, a son of Harrison W. and Fern Mae (Bonesteel) Glenn. He married Thelma Maxine Wilton on June 27, 1956, in Wayne City, and she survives in Mt. Vernon.
Mr. Glenn worked in construction having been a house mover for Eby Movers, who were in the house moving business.
Fred was a former member of the First Assembly of God in Rockford, where he served as usher. He was a lifetime member of the Mt. Vernon Gun and Sportsman Club. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Fred is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Thelma Glenn of Mt. Vernon; two sons, Gene Ray Glenn of Seattle and Roger Franklin Glenn and wife Julia Glenn of South Beloit; two daughters, Sandra Sue Wilson of Rockford and Sheila Mae Belt and husband Matthew Belt of Rockford; seven grandchildren, Gene, Christopher, Katherine, Joe, Rachel, Andrew and Amber; two great-grandchildren, Julian and Olivia; brother, Joseph Glenn and wife Eileen Glenn of Rockford; a son-in-law, Lyman Wilson of Rockford; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Betty Venters and Alverda Hunt; two brothers, Charles Henry Glenn and Elvis “Red” Glenn; and also one infant grandson.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. The family will gather at Old Union Baptist Church following visitation for lunch.
Funeral services for Fred Glenn will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Robert Seifred officiating. Burial will be held at Farnsworth Cemetery South of Keenes at a later date.
