Roger Mikeworth

Roger William Mikeworth, 77, of Mt. Vernon and formerly of Paxton, died at 6:40 a.m. Friday, March 8, 2013, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon.

He was born on Aug. 15, 1935, in Melvin, to Frank and Mamie (Mickens) Mikeworth. He married Patricia Lorraine Doyle on June 9, 1955, and she preceded him in death in January 1989. He later married Beverly Ann Badgett Messiha in Mt. Vernon on June 15, 1991.

He graduated from Melvin-Sibley High School class of 1953 and later attended Eureka College in Eureka, Ill. He worked for United Parcel Service for three years and then 40 plus years as an agent and manager for Bankers Life & Casualty Co. where he was a member of the Presidents Club and a recipient of numerous President's Honor Circle awards for sales excellence. He was the Agent of the Year award recipient in 1992, 1994, 1995, and 1996. He also received the Quarterback Award for outstanding leadership as a Branch Sales Manager. He retired from Bankers Life and became an independent insurance broker for the past seven years.

He attended the First Baptist Church of Mt. Vernon and sang in the church choir. He was a past president of the Paxton High School Sports Booster Club and was active in the leadership of Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts in Paxton. He was a Boy Scout Troop Leader for Pack 35.

His life goal was to support and encourage others including his children and grandchildren to excel in their endeavors. He enjoyed spending time working in his yard.

Roger is survived by his wife, Beverly Mikeworth; two daughters, Peggy Mikeworth-Jordan and husband Michael of Maiden, N.C. and Julie Messiha-Watson and husband Mark of Wheaton; four sons, Kevin Mikeworth and wife Laurie of Huntersville, N.C., Brian Mikeworth and wife Terry of Forsyth, Doug Mikeworth of Naperville and Mark Messiha and wife Kristi of Carol Stream; one sister, Virginia DeFries of New Harmony, Ind.; two brothers, Vincent Lloyd Mikeworth of Onarga and George “Homer” Mikeworth of Ashkum; nine grandchildren, Amanda Jordan-Malone and husband Patrick, Christina Jordan-Johnston and husband Christopher, Ryan Jordan, Brian Mikeworth, Sean Mikeworth, Laura Mikeworth, Tim Mikeworth, Tyler Mikeworth, and Justin Mikeworth.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Patricia Mikeworth; two sisters, Beth Kutenbach Holferty of Chatsworth and Mary Mikeworth of Onarga; and four brothers, Wesley Mikeworth, Dennis Mikeworth, Raymond Mikeworth and Elvin Mikeworth, all of Onarga.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon with Dr. Ryan Burge officiating.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.

Graveside interment services will be at 4 p.m. Monday at the Lyman Township Cemetery in Roberts, Ill.
