Donnie “DB” Black, 57, of Mt. Vernon, passed away 4:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, at his sister’s home in Mt. Vernon.
He was born Aug. 21, 1955, in Mt. Vernon, the son of Burniece Black Sr. and Lula Mae (Hughes) Black.
He worked for Ford Square and King City Chrysler in Mt. Vernon for many years in the detail and prep department. He was a member of Power of Change Christian Church in Mt. Vernon. He was a basketball coach and an avid fan.
Donnie is survived by his special friend, Rhonda Smith of Centralia; four sons, Dontrell Devon Black of Mt. Vernon, Donyale D. Black of Mt. Vernon, Richard Davis and wife Jessica of Springfield and La’Shawn Johnson of Mt. Vernon; five sisters, Mary Lee Bowman of Mt. Vernon, Ruthie Mae Hudson of Mt. Vernon, Elizabeth Black of Mt. Vernon, Rose Marie Jones and husband Paul of Mt. Vernon and Gloria Jean Black of Indianapolis; a brother, Berniece “Bunny” Black of Mt. Vernon; several grandchildren; and also by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church, 1133 Main St., Mt. Vernon, with Elder Curtis Lott officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9 a.m. until service time at the church.
