Mildred Marie Diez, 92, of Mount Vernon, passed away 9:50 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at the Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor in Mount Vernon.
Mildred was born a daughter of Horace Oakley Green Sr. and Mary Elizabeth (Jackson) Green on Oct. 9, 1920, in Joliet. She married Gerald Allison Diez on July 12, 1942, in Cape Girardeau, Mo., and he survives in Marion at the VA Nursing Home.
Mildred was a seamstress and presser at Kerelys Cleaners in Mt. Vernon for many years. She was a member of the Logan Street Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon. She was a member of the American Legion Auxillary Post 141 in Mt. Vernon and the Varnell Rebekah Lodge 296 Mt. Vernon.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia and husband Ted Staley of Westmont; son, Kenneth Diez and wife Kathy of Ina; three sisters, Virginia Hutchison of Mt. Vernon, Izora Kayser of Chandler, Ariz., and Mary Favors of Manteno; four grandchildren, Christy and husband Robert Dent, Amy and husband Jay Clark, Alicia and husband Dan Johnson and Rhonda and husband John Yedinak; and also nine great-grandchildren.
Private funeral services for Mildred Diez will be held at Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with interment to follow at Panther Fork Cemetery in rural Texico. Pastor David Shores will officiate.
She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother Horace Oakley Green Jr.
For those who wish, memorials may be given to Panther Fork Cemetery, American Diabetes Association or the Alzheimer's Association and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to the funeral home.
