Marsha Marie Elzy, 64, of Mt. Vernon, died at 8:45 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at her home in Mt. Vernon.
She was born Dec. 21, 1948, in Springfield, the daughter of Elmer Dean and Arletta Marie (West) Elzy.
She is survived by her mother, Arletta Marie Elzy of Mt. Vernon; a son, Kenneth Wayne “Kenny” Elzy and wife Jaime of Mt. Vernon; a granddaughter, Madi Cubley of Mt. Vernon; and an aunt, uncles and cousins also survive.
She was preceded in death by her father and one brother, William Dean “Bill” Elzy.
Marsha was an elementary school teacher in Wayne City, was recognized as an Unsung Hero by WSIL TV 3 News, was a volunteer at Crossroads Community Hospital Auxilary, was a member of West Salem Trinity United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon, and was an avid movie goer.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Brad Henson officiating. Interment will be in West Salem Cemetery in Mt. Vernon.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Hughey Funeral Home.
For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Jefferson County Animal Shelter, American Cancer Society, Hospice of the Good Samaritan and to the West Salem Trinity United Methodist Church youth programs, and will be accepted at the funeral home.
