Bernard James “Bernie” Winkel, 89, of Kell, died at 8:40 a.m. Wednesday Nov. 20, 2013, at his home in Kell.
He was born Oct. 5, 1924, in Algona, Iowa, the son Ralph and Edna (Sullivan) Winkel.
Mr. Winkel is survived by his children, Floyd Winkel and wife Joyce of Morton, Beth Karcher and husband Kevin of Washington, Bernie Bracamonte of Phoenix, Mark Winkel and wife Irene of Iuka and Dan Winkel and wife Sherry of Centralia; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; three brothers, George Winkel of Morris, Leo Winkel of Morris and Duane Winkel of Lebanon, Mo.; and one sister, Theresa Craig of Arkansas.
Mr. Winkel was preceded in death by his parents and by one sister.
Mr. Winkel was an owner/operator and over the road truck driver for many years and was also a forklift mechanic for M&H Equipment company in Danville. But his true passion was wood working. He had the ability to construct furniture from scratch and to repair ornate wood work inside and outside of older homes and buildings.
Memorial services for Bernard James “Bernie” Winkel will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the L. R. Osborn & Son Funeral Home in Kell with the Rev. Randy Hayes officiating.
