Warren Robert Hattendorf, 73 of Mt. Vernon, died 4:53 a.m. Sunday, June 16, 2013, at his home in Mt. Vernon, with his family at his side.
He was born Sunday, Sept. 3, 1939, in Chicago, the son of Robert Thomas and Marie Barbara (Konratt) Hattendorf. He married Johann Dolik on April 22, 1961, in Chicago.
Warren worked as the Director of Human Resources Division at General Dynamics Coal Business for thirty years before retiring in 1987. Following his retirement, he worked as a teacher at Kaskaskia College for fourteen years. For twenty of his many year membership at St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, he served as a church usher. He was also involved in the Maintenance and Building Committee at the church. Other organizations and events he was involved with include AARP/IRS Tax Aide Volunteer for fourteen years, Mt. Vernon Elks Lodge Post 819 – once being declared Elk of the Year, and flag carrier for the Elks. Warren earned a bachelor’s of science degree from DePaul University of Chicago and a master’s of business science degree at Loyola University of Chicago.
He is survived by wife, Johann Hattendorf of Mt. Vernon; two daughters, Deborah Lynn Skillrud and husband Dr. David of Bloomington and Barbara Ann Putrich and husband Tad of Canton; son, Donald Stephen Hattendorf and wife Meg of Mt. Vernon; 13 grandchildren, Joey Hattendorf, Ellie Hattendorf, Katie Dillard, Jack Bunting, David Bunting, Hans Skillrud, Leif Skillrud, Kirsten Skillrud, Rikka Skillrud, Meta Skillrud, Linnea Skillrud, Matthew Putrich and Megan Putrich; great-grandchildren, Kya Ann Dillard; brother, Dr. David Hattendorf and wife Fran of Prescott, Ariz.; sister-in-law, Janice Langenberg; and several nieces and nephews, including special nephew, Thomas Langenberg and wife Jacqui.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral mass will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon with the Very Rev. John C. Iffert, V.F. officiating. In honor of Mr. Hattendorf’s wishes, he will be cremated following the services.
Visitation will be held from 12 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Immaculate Conception Church in Mt. Vernon.
