Ethel Manion

---- — Ethel C. Manion, age 80, of Mt. Vernon, passed away 7:30 a.m. Thursday, May 1, 2014, at home with family.

Ethel was born Oct. 8, 1933, in Piopolis, a daughter of Charles and Clara (Nice) Rubenacker. She married John Manion Jr. on June 28, 1952, and he preceded her in death on April 7, 2003.

Mrs. Manion was a member of the St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon. Ethel was a volunteer for Crossroads Community Hospital Auxiliary.

Ethel is survived by her sons, John Jay Manion and wife Marcia of Mt. Vernon, James A. Manion and wife Bobbie of Mt. Vernon and Jason L. Manion and wife Karla of Salem; grandchildren, Eric Manion, Justin Geiler, Jennifer Luer and husband Nicholaus, Jessica Manion and fiancé Josh Corley, Shawna Manion and special friend Brandon Bullard, Joe Manion, Brittney Manion and fiancé Chris Atkins and Jordan Manion; three great-grandchildren, Rylee Manion, Maliah Manion and Jayden Manion; brother, Clarence Rubenacker and wife Beverly of Malibu, Calif.; and a sister, Georgia Reinhardt and husband Ronald of St. Louis.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Manion, Jr.; son, Joseph M. Manion; granddaughter, Jayma N. Manion; two sisters, Gladys Heinen and Ruth Bond; and a brother, Morris Rubenacker.

Graveside funeral services for Ethel Manion will be held 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Cemetery in Mt. Vernon with the Very Rev. John C. Iffert VF officiating.

For those who wish, memorials may be given to the St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and will be accepted at the funeral home or mailed to Newell Funeral Home, 2707 North Street, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
