Lena (Ancona) Wall, 99, of Mt. Vernon, died Friday, May 2, 2014, at her home in Mt. Vernon.
She was born Thursday, Sept. 17, 1914, in Mt. Vernon, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Torregrossa) Ancona. She married Tallie C. Wall on Dec. 31, 1939, in Morganfield, Ky. and he preceded her in death on May 17, 1981.
Lena worked as a seamstress for a garment factory for 18 years and was the owner and operator of the Mt. Vernon Snow Cone Stand since 1958. She was a member of Meadowbrook Christian Church. Her family would like to express their appreciation over the past 50+ years for the friendship and loyal support shown by the community in her snow cone business.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary A. Mullinax and husband of David of Mt. Vernon and Jane Shideler of Overland Park, Kan.; two sons, John C. Wall of Nashville and Donald L. Wall and wife April of Texico; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, Tony, John and Joe Ancona; two sisters, Josephine Wilson and Elizabeth Green; and one nephew, Charles “Chuck” Ray Wilson.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens chapel in Woodlawn with Mr. Johnathan Schautz officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Monday at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens chapel in Woodlawn.
