Norman E. Tolley, Jr., 67, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 6:52 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon.
Norman was born the son of Norman Tolley Sr. and Millie (Warner) Tolley on April 7, 1947, in Mt. Vernon.
He was a member of the Mt. Vernon Church of Christ where he served as a deacon for 24 years. Norman served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He had worked for the M and R Warehouse and later for Anheuser-Busch in Mt. Vernon until failing health. Norman was loving brother, father and grandfather. He also loved to read.
He is survived by a son, Sean Tolley of Mt. Vernon; grandson, James Norman Tolley of Mt. Vernon; brother, Kevin Tolley and wife Sandra of Mt. Vernon; two sisters, Jeannine Eubanks and husband Stephen of Charlotte, N.C., and Ada Jean Tolley of Mt. Carmel; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Freda Mae Tolley; and daughter-in-law, Gretchen Ivy Lamke.
A memorial service for Norman E. Tolley will be held at 7 p.m. at Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with Mr. Charles Clark and Mr. Josh Hartwigsen officiating.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 5 p.m. until the service time at the funeral home.
