James W. Jester, 85, of Mt. Vernon, died 12:10 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2014, at Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor in Mt. Vernon.
He was born Wednesday, March 20, 1929, in Mt. Vernon, the son of Holly H. and Ella M. (Warner) Jester. He married Mary Lou Harvill.
James worked pipeline construction for Vedal and Sheehan and retired as a coal miner from Inland Steel and Consolidation Coal Company, Rend Lake Mine. He was a member of Park Avenue Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Jester of Mt. Vernon; son, Ed Jester and wife Mary Beth of Morgantown, W. Va.; three daughters, Brenda England and husband Steve of Woodlawn, Karen Schubert and husband Dale of Mt. Vernon and Joann Willmore and husband Tom of Mt. Vernon; nine grandchildren, Chris Jester, Kari Walters and husband Charlie, Michaela Morgan, Stephanie Griffin and husband John, John England and wife Tori, Michael Schubert, Robert Schubert and wife Olivia, Trevor Schubert and Mary Jo Thompson and husband Ryan; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother killed in action in WWII, Lloyd Jester; two sisters, Catherine Rueffer and Thelma Taylor; and one infant brother.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Gary Davenport officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Mt. Vernon.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
