Betty Richardson

Betty J. Richardson, 83, of Bluford, died 7:25 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2014, peacefully at her home in Bluford, surrounded by family.

She was born Monday, Dec. 22, 1930, in Mt. Vernon, the daughter of Dowell and Florence (Davis) Robertson. She married Glenn Eugene Richardson on Dec. 26, 1947, in Mt. Vernon and he preceded her in death on July 13, 2012.

Betty was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was employed as a case manager for the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) and an advocate to the court for sexually abused children at the Amy Center. Betty and her husband were members of Salem Free Will Baptist Church. She loved cooking for her family, embroidery, gardening and caring for others.

She is survived by four daughters, LaQuita Richardson and husband David Crisman of Chattanooga, Tenn., Glenda Phillips of Bluford, Ronda Gillespie and husband David of Bluford and Joyce Jones and husband Jim of Pinckneyville; three sons, Bobby Richardson and wife Barbara of Bluford, Michael E. Richardson and wife Jeanine of Bluford and Quint Richardson and wife Debbie of Mt. Vernon; two brothers, Bill Robertson of Mt. Vernon and Bob Robertson of Mt. Vernon; two sisters, Joann Langdon of Mt. Vernon and Jean Minor and husband Kelly of Mt. Vernon; special pet friends, Floie and Bubbles; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one infant brother; a grandson, Trevas Henry; and one great-granddaughter, McKenzie Smith.

Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Salem Free Will Baptist Church in Wayne County with the Rev. Bryan Bennett officiating. Interment will be at Mateer-Davis Cemetery in Wayne County.

Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of service at 3 p.m. Saturday at Salem Free Will Baptist Church in Wayne County.

For those who wish, memorials may be given to the SSM Hospice and to Mateer-Davis Cemetery and will be accepted at the funeral home or mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
