---- — Florence Mary “Flo” McHugh, 74, of Mt. Vernon, passed away 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2014, at Green Tree Assisted Living Center in Mt. Vernon.
She was born Friday, April 12, 1940, in County Mayo, Ireland, the daughter of Patrick and Mary Ellen (Kearns) Sheil. She married Thomas “Tom” McHugh on Aug. 29, 1964, in Chicago and he preceded her in death on Oct. 19, 2000.
Flo was the owner and operator of McDonald’s Corp. along with her husband and was a member of St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon.
She is survived by her son, Jerry Jones of Mt. Vernon; two grandchildren, Annie V. Jones of Mt. Vernon and Thomas “Mac” McHugh Jones of Mt. Vernon; four brothers, Patrick Joseph Sheil of Australia, James William Sheil and wife Marie of Australia, Daniel Sheil and wife Ann of Ireland and Terence Sheil and wife Kathy of Chicago; four sisters, Eileen Veronica Murtah of England, Bernadette Ryder of Ireland, Margaret Rose Walsh and husband Donald of Ireland and Betty Hynes and husband Liam of England; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two daughters, Sheila A. McHugh-Jones and Margaret M. “Maggie” McHugh; one grandson, Patrick Wayne Jones; two brothers, John and Eamon Sheil; and two sisters, Theresa Mary Kelly and Kathleen Patricia Hulne.
Funeral mass will be held at 9 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon with the Very Reverend Father John Iffert officiating. Interment will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Mt. Vernon.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon and again from 8 to 9 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon.
