James "Jim" Pierce, 82, of Mt. Vernon, died 4 a.m. Friday, May 9, 2014, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon.
He was born Sunday, Feb. 14, 1932, in Chicago, the son of James and Laverne (Eckhart) Pierce. He married Theresa Fiore on Feb. 10, 1968, in Chicago.
Jim was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and was a truck driver for C.J. Meats Company in Chicago.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Theresa Pierce of Mt. Vernon; three daughters, Gina Whitlock and husband Leo of Mt. Vernon, Terry Weisinger of Wisconsin and Barb Kittinger and special friend Pam of South Carolina; son, Jim Pierce and wife Dee of Belleville; grandchildren, Jim Pierce and wife Rebecca, Michael Pierce and wife Sue, Ryan Pierce, Craig and Nicole Pierce, Jessica Pierce and fiancé Brian Saldana, John Donovan, Rebecca Whitlock, Sean Whitlock, David Whitlock, Laura Houston, Carrie Kochan and husband Albert, Thomas Weisinger, Shelly Kittinger, Kelly Kittinger-Smith and husband Tim, and Barrie Kittinger; two brothers, Leroy and Herbert Pierce; sister, Laverne Pierce; 28 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Eugene Pierce; and one son-in-law, John Weisinger.
Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Cemetery in Mt. Vernon with the Very Reverend Father John Iffert officiating. Interment will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. Members of Mt. Vernon Legion Post 141 will conduct full military honors at the cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Cemetery in Mt. Vernon.
