Ramona Joyce “Mona” Pretz, 75, of Mt. Vernon, peacefully left this world on Saturday, May 10, 2014, at 6:48 p.m., at her home, surrounded by her family.
Mona was born in Harrisburg, on Jan. 26, 1939, the first born child of Benjamin Stanley and Nettie Opal (Barnes) Knight.
She is survived by her brother, Jerry Lee Knight and wife Carol Ann of Herrin; daughters, Debi Vincent of Mt. Vernon and Karmaleita Joyce Nagy and husband Josh of Ivesdale; grandchildren, Michael Vincent, Joseph Vincent, Kristina Vincent and Oakley Nagy; great-grandson, Gavin Joseph Vincent; sister-in-law, Linda Sue Johnson, widow of Mona’s brother Bennie Joe Knight; and nieces, Kathy Lovelace, Sharon Wisdom, Diana Ball, Angela Paris and Lisa Mighell.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her baby brother, Bennie Joe Knight.
Ms. Pretz was a hairdresser for many years, owning several beauty shops and after retiring, became a real estate broker. She was an avid bowler and loved collecting antiques, going to yard sales and flea markets and playing bingo. She was a volunteer at Twice Nice Thrift Shop and the Prince of Peace Church food pantry.
Mona was so proud of her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandson, Gavin (who loved her red shoes!). You could keep clock by her nightly phone call to her brother and lifelong best friend, Jerry Lee Knight.
Services will be held at the Chapel at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto at 1 p.m. today.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to Nice Twice Thrift Shop or the Jefferson County Animal Shelter and will be accepted at the funeral home or mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
