Charles William “Bill” Shelton, age 61, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 1:48 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at Crossroads Community Hospital in Mt. Vernon.
Bill was born Jan. 1, 1953, in Mt. Carmel, the son of Charles H. and Catherine (Neville) Shelton. On Oct. 27, 1984, in Mt. Vernon, he married Gayle (Federman) and she survives in Mt. Vernon.
Mr. Shelton was a member of the West Salem Trinity United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon where he was active in the men’s group and served as head usher. He retired January 2013, from Wirtz Beverage in Belleville where he had worked as a salesman. He later worked at Sensation Station.
Bill is survived by his wife, Gayle Shelton of Mt. Vernon; mother, Catherine Shelton of Mt. Carmel; daughter, Kate Shelton of Arizona; son, Mark Shelton of Champaign; sister, Linda Terry and husband Bill of Winter Park, Fla.; two brothers-in-law, Bill Federman and wife Diana of Massachusetts and Brad Federman and wife Sally of California; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Funeral services for Bill Shelton will be held 1:30 p.m. Sunday at West Salem Trinity United Methodist Church, 4212 Broadway Street Mt. Vernon, with Pastor Brad Henson officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Mt. Vernon.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday at the West Salem Trinity United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon.
