Blanche E. Flatt, age 93, of Countryside Residential Living Center in Mt. Vernon and a former resident of Benton, passed away 11:18 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2014, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center.
She was born Dec. 10, 1920, in Waltonville, the daughter of Homer E. and Elsie (Corgan) Dees. She married Opal Jean Flatt and he preceded her in death Dec. 26, 1996.
Mrs. Flatt was a member of Waltonville United Methodist Church. She retired from the Mt. Vernon Garment Factory where she worked as a seamstress.
Blanche is survived by her daughter, Delores Perona of Mazon; nephews, Charles Dees and wife Carole of Bonnie, Danny Dees of Texico and Ernie Dees and wife Debra of Mt. Vernon; two grandchildren, Robin Reich and special friend Bob Vanwinkle of Ina and Daniel Drew of Branson, Mo.; great-grandchildren, Sasha, Danny, Natasha and Mikey; and four great-nieces, Angela, Shelley, Crystal and Stacie.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer E. and Elsie (Corgan) Dees; husband, Opal Jean Flatt; brothers, Orland C. (Nina) Dees and Chester E. (Margaret) Dees; great-niece, Twila (Dees) Snow; great-great-niece, Twanna Danielle Snow; and a great-great-great-nephew, Duane Micheal Snow-Watson.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Newell Funeral Home in Waltonville. Interment will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery in Sesser.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Newell Funeral Home in Waltonville.
