Phyllis Flaugher, 85, of Mt. Vernon, died at 2:30 a.m. Friday, May 30, 2014, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon.
She was born Oct. 25, 1928, in Pekin, the daughter of Ollie Herren and Velma (Dixon) Strope.
She is survived by three daughters, Kathi Hammond and husband Steve of Salem, Barbara Jones of Mt. Vernon and Sandy Wyss and husband Bob of Peoria; a son, Patrick Fulton of Mt. Vernon; grandchildren, Casey Hammond of Lexington, Ky., Corrie Hammond of Salem, Heather Zuber and husband Colin of Mt. Vernon, Michael Greenwalt of Collinsville, Brooke Greenwalt of Mt. Vernon, Samantha Jones of Mt. Vernon, Kathi Wyss of Peoria, Vicky Cochran of Peoria and Karen Anderson of Peoria; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Michael Fulton; brother, Richard Herren; and sister, Delores Kemper.
She was employed in the production department at Rocky Mountain Bank Note.
Her family was her world. She loved attending all of their school and sports events. She loved “road trips” and traveling to see them. Nothing made her happier than being surrounded by her family. She was an avid gardener and could grow any flower. She possessed a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh. She was patient, kind and always forgiving. She loved her family always.
Celebration of life services will be held from 1:30 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Rolland W. Lewis Community Building in City Park in Mt. Vernon.
Memorials may be made to Corrie’s Team, a charity set up for her granddaughter Corrie Hammond to fight MS and will be accepted at the funeral home.
