Mayaileen Lane, age 91, of Mt. Vernon, passed away 5:20 p.m. Monday, July 1, 2013, at the Mt. Vernon Residential Living Center.
Mayaileen was born May 25, 1922, in Lincoln, a daughter of Robert and Elsie (Brown) Peters. She married Virgil Lane on Feb. 8, 1941, in Morganfield, Ky., and he preceded her in death on July 17, 1995.
Mayaileen worked as a beautician for many years. She was a member of the Central Christian Church in Mt. Vernon.
She is survived by her son, Gerald Lane and wife Nancy of Mt. Vernon; daughter, LaVonda Rawls and husband Herman of Mt. Vernon; four grandchildren, Rick Lane and wife Doree of Canyon Lake, Calif., Dawn Scroggins and Tom Barker of El Dorado, Ark., James Lane and wife Sara of Herrin and Amanda Hale and husband Brandon of Mt. Vernon; five great-grandchildren, Ryan McIntosh, Drew McIntosh, Christopher Scroggins, Joshua Scroggins and Preston Lane; and also two great-great grandchildren, Lillian Whitlock and Grayson Whitlock.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one infant brother, Ernest Peters; and a special friend, Ferrell Curell.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with Pastor Randy Sells officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 11 a.m. until service time.
