Fern Fairchild, 87, of Mt. Vernon, died 5 a.m. Thursday, April 18, 2013, at her home in Mt. Vernon.
She was born Saturday, Aug. 29, 1925, in Dahlgren, the daughter of Emery V. and Juanita I. (King) Seel. She married Warren Dycus Fairchild on Oct. 30, 1955, in Mt. Vernon and he preceded her in death on May 21, 1983.
Fern worked as a sales clerk at Sears in Mt. Vernon for 16 years and was of the Christian faith. The family would like to send a special thank you to neighbors and friends at Rose Lane for loving mom as much as we did.
She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Hertenstein of Sevierville, Tenn. and Jackie B. Bennett and husband Jim of Ewing; son, Warren Dycus Fairchild, Jr. and wife Cara of Dix; five grandchildren, Traci Benard and husband Alfie Mensing of Germantown, Sara Fairchild of St. Louis, Katherine Fairchild of Mt. Vernon and Autumn Austin and Abigail Bennett of Ewing; great-granddaughter, Whitney Benard of Mt. Vernon; sister, Violet Nadine Loss of Benton; brother, Emery Seel of Bloomington; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a granddaugher, Stephanie McAdoo Cramer; a stepgrandson, Brian Savage; and a son-in-law, Bill Hertenstein.
A celebration of life service will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Roger Loss officiating.
In honor of her wishes, she was cremated and no visitation will be held.
