Lillian Louise Arendale Moore, 87, of Mt. Vernon, born Jan. 22, 1926, in St. Louis, passed to her heavenly reward on Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, at Countryside Manor, Mt. Vernon.
Louise was the daughter and only child of the late Dr. Alma Lillian Arendale Moore of Mt. Vernon, St. Louis, Montana and Ohio and the late Dr. Thomas Moore of Mt. Vernon. She was the granddaughter of the late Louie Bodine Arendale and Dr. Daniel Henry Arendale, proprietors of the Palace Hotel of Mt. Vernon.
Louise was a talented graphic artist, having studied portraiture, photography and drawing at various schools, including the Art Student League of New York, where she lived for a year. Her greatest joy was traveling to visit friends in California and Florida; she was very proud to have been able to take two tours to Europe. She became a realtor and managed numerous properties in Jefferson County, Mo., accumulated by her mother. She spent ten of the happiest years of her life in South County, Mo., where she enjoyed going to the movies, shopping at Borders and eating out.
Although quite disabled by arthritis in her last years at Countryside Manor, Louise delighted in news of the outside world, in following Jeopardy and the news on television and in continuing telephone relationships with friends in Missouri, Utah and California and family in New York City.
Louise was lovingly cared for in her last years by the nurses at Countryside Manor and especially by Pamela Marquis Ford of Mt. Vernon, the great-granddaughter of Louise’s great-aunt Henrietta, as well as by Jennifer Ketay Brock of New York, one of the granddaughters of Louise’s aunt, the late Mary Lee Arendale Williams. Louise is survived as well by another granddaughter and three grandsons of her late aunt, Jay Keith Williams of New York, Sebastien Williams of Mamaroneck, and Albertine and Nicolas Williams of France.
There will be no visitation.
Graveside service and burial will be held at 9 a.m. Friday at Oakwood Cemetery in Mt. Vernon.
