---- — Mrs. Audrey “Maxine” Throgmorton Rogers, 90, widow of Mr. Ray Cecil Rogers, was called home peacefully in her sleep to be with her Lord and Savior Friday morning, Aug. 23, 2013, at Emeritus Senior Living in Greensboro, N.C., after suffering from a stroke in 2009 that took her memory and communication abilities.
Mrs. Rogers was born Oct. 31, 1922, in Jefferson County, to the late Reed Throgmorton and Willie May Stone. She was a retired licensed practical nurse. She was a faithful woman of God and lived her life serving Him and others. She unselfishly cared for her husband while he was here on this earth. She was a virtuous, loving, caring and independent woman. She was proud to be called a housewife, farmer’s wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and aunt. Prior to her stroke, she was a Sunday school teacher, active member of the local church and fervent prayer warrior. She loved to travel, set out on adventures, paint, read, sew, walk, swim, fish and camp. She loved her family and most of all Jesus.
She is survived by a half-sister, Reeda Slusher, Carmel, Ind.; son and daughter-in-law, Guy Rogers and Glenda, High Point, N.C.; five grandchildren and spouses, Stefanie Rogers Horner and Clint, Burlington, N.C., Stacie Rogers Everhart and Taylor, Oak Ridge, N.C., Scott Goldbar and Janet, Lexington, S.C., Tara Welch and Dale, Swansea, S.C. and Allison Raybon and Michael, Swansea, S.C.; eight great-grandchildren, Preston, Cody, Kristie, Kayla, Corey, Brittany, Dallas, Ruben and Josie; three great-great-grandchildren; and multiple nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Rogers was preceded in death by one son, Arthur James Ratliff; five sisters, Velma Vallowe, Evelyn Tracey, Doris Cole, Glenda Throgmorton and Margaret Throgmorton; and three brothers, Edward Throgmorton, Virgil Throgmorton and Johnnie Throgmorton.
Cremation services were entrusted to J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home of Thomasville, N.C. A private family viewing and memorial service led by her son, Guy, was held at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home, in Thomasville, N.C., Friday, Aug. 23, 2013 at 7 p.m. Her ashes will be buried in Bethel Cemetery in Mt. Vernon at a later date to be determined with a graveside memorial to follow.
