MT. VERNON — Lucy Liddell, age 89, of Mt. Vernon passed away 12:01 a.m. Saturday, May 18, 2013, at Nature Trail Health Care Center in Mt. Vernon.
She was born June 1, 1923, in Carroll County, Miss., the daughter of Charles and Lula Mae (Henry) Hughes. She first married Fred W. Spells; he preceded her in death. She later married Louis Liddell; he also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Liddell was a member of Pavey Chapel C.M.E. in Mt. Vernon for over 50 years where she sang in the choir.
She is survived by three sons, Douglas Spells and wife Irean of Mt. Vernon, Louis Liddell of St. Louis, and Earl Liddell of Mt. Vernon; two daughters, Rose Ann Spells and Sylvia Loyd both of Indianapolis; a sister, Inez McReynolds; nine grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Lucy was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; one son, Fred Spells; seven brothers; and five sisters.
Funeral services will be held 12 p.m. Saturday, May 25, 2013, at the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Curtis Lott will officiate. Burial will be held at a later date in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Woodlawn.
Visitation will be held at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church on Saturday from 11 a.m. until service time.
