---- — Gayla Beth “Sissy” Morlan, age 52, of Mt. Vernon passed away 1:36 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon.

Beth was born Jan. 8, 1961, in Mt. Vernon, a daughter of Bill and Phyllis J. (Summers) Morlan.

Beth graduated from Webber Township High School in 1979, where she was active in all sports and was a cheerleader. She was a state gymnast and also Homecoming queen. She was known as a great cook. Beth loved helping people and animals. She was most proud of her nieces. She enjoyed life and was always the life of the party.

Beth is survived by her mother, Phyllis J. Gowler of Mt. Vernon; partner, Mark Pyszka of Mt. Vernon; four brothers, Brent Morlan of Salem, Blake Gowler of Mt. Vernon, Bryant Morlan and wife Jill of Troy and Bruce Morlan and wife Ting of Centralia; and eight nieces, Danielle, Michaela, Andrea, Lenzi, Brittany, Tierney, Rachel and Yuan Yuan.

She was preceded in death by her father, Bill Morlan; brother, Andrew Bradley Morlan; and one niece, Amy Morlan.

A memorial gathering will be held on from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, 2013, at Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.

For those who wish, memorials may be made to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Newell Funeral Home 2707 North St., Mt. Vernon, IL, 62864.
