Billie Sue Craig, 81, of Mt. Vernon, died 11 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at Countryside Manor in Mt. Vernon. She died of Alzheimer’s, but could still say “I love you” and recognize her loved ones, right up to the end. She wrote down the Lord’s Prayer when she was diagnosed, as she was afraid she might forget it. That was not a problem, as it was written in her heart.
She was born on Aug. 20, 1931, in Jefferson City, Mo, where she met the first love of her life, Bob Craig. After Bob died in 1996, she had the pleasure of being a special friend to Bob Noel and his family. In 2006, she met the second love of her life, Stuart Bean. Stuart has been a loving husband and constant companion through a difficult struggle. She loved him greatly in return. Stuart’s loving family has been so kind in helping Sue during her illness.
She was a wonderful mother to her two kids, Sheryl and Mark and a loving mamaw to grandchildren, Shannon, Kristen and Peter Walker, and David and Aaron Craig. She is survived by her two sisters, Helen Fay and Mary Brunstein and their numerous kids and grandkids.
Sue was first and foremost, a beautiful Christian lady with a deep love for the scripture, which she could recite from memory. Her many interests included tennis, bowling, bridge, golf and being a good friend to everyone she met. She never said an unkind word to anyone.
Sue was a member of Logan Street Baptist Church for 45 years and was a greeter and Sunday school teacher. She loved this church.
