---- — Lorene C. Aydt, 88, of Mt. Vernon, died 10:25 a.m. Thursday, May 9, 2013, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon.

She was born Satuday, June 7, 1924, in Dahlgren, the daughter of Gus and Agatha (Kaufman) Karcher. She married Leonard A. Aydt on July 3, 1947, in Piopolis and he preceded her in death on March 4, 1994.

Lorene was a cook at Rusty’s Drive-In in Mt. Vernon for several years and she was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Ladies’ Sodality of the church.

She is survived by three daughters, Brenda McPherson and husband Russell of Opdyke, Janice Guymon of Gilbert, Ariz. and Teresa Phelps of Opdyke; daughter-in-law, Brenda Aydt of Gillespie; two sisters, Norma Collins of McLeansboro and Matilda Miller of Dahlgren; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Terry Aydt; one brother, Howard Karcher; and three sons-in-law, Mike Guymon, Kenneth Sheridan and Marvin Phelps.

Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon with Father Robert Zwilling officiating. Interment will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Mt. Vernon.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon followed by a rosary service at 7 p.m.
