---- — Elma Lou Mason, 96, of Mt. Vernon, passed away 6 a.m. Monday, Sept. 2, 2013, at her home in Mt. Vernon.
Elma was born a daughter of Ralph H. and Sarah (Dixon) Beekman on Feb. 8, 1917, in Mt. Vernon. She married Herbert A. Mason in Effingham on Dec. 25, 1936, and he preceded her in death Oct. 24, 1972.
Mrs. Mason was a member of the Grace Community Church in Mt. Vernon. She was employed in the business office at Good Samaritan Hospital where she worked from 1965 until her retirement in 1983.
She is survived by her three sons, Ricky Mason and wife Nancy of Symrna, Tenn., Mike Mason and wife Marcia of Johnston City and Robert Mason and wife Rynda of Opdyke; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Mason, Michael Mason, Sarah Mason, Matthew Mason, Kristopher Mason and wife Amanda, Hannah Mason and fiancé Joshua Linville and Weston Mason; two great-granddaughters, Kelcie Mason and Paige Wallace; two great-grandsons, Britton Popovich and Brooks Mason; great-great-grandson, Leo Pulliam; and also a special friend, Wanda Tate.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two brothers, Charles and Glenn Beekman.
Funeral services for Elma Lou Mason will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with Pastor David Fields officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Woodlawn.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the Newell Funeral Home.
