Dearld Gene “D.J.” Jay, 70, of Bonnie, died 5:55 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, at his home in Bonnie.
He was born Sunday, July 18, 1943, in Mt. Vernon, the son of Ralph Gerald Jay, Sr. and Helen Louise (Funkhouser) Jay. He married Marlene Judith Anderson on Nov. 27, 1985, in Joliet.
D.J. worked in maintenance/machine repair at Caterpillar Tractor Company and after his retirement worked at the Mt. Vernon Wal-Mart. He was a member of the Lutheran faith and had a deep belief in God.
He is survived by his wife, Marlene Jay of Bonnie; four children, Tarry Jay of Anna, David Jay of Mt. Vernon, James Shearer and wife Wendy of Rockdale and Michael Shearer and wife Lynn of Encino, Calif.; three brothers, Ralph Jay, Jr. and wife Mary of Homer Glen, Bud Dean Jay and wife Linda of Benton and Jerry Bill Jay and wife Penny of Lockport; sister, Barbara Bravard and husband Bob of Mt. Vernon; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Rick, Marvin, Joe and Jack Jay; one sister, Roxy Ann Jay; and a daughter in infancy, Tayna Jay.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Russell Wolfe officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. tonight at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
