---- — Rick L. Spiller, 65, of Mt. Vernon, died at 10:45 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013, at his home in Mt. Vernon.
He was born May 21, 1948, in Royalton, a son of Marion and Pauline (Stidd) Spiller. On May 15, 1980, in Mt. Vernon, he married Mary Gentles, who survives in Mt. Vernon.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Jeff B. Spiller and fiancee Kathy Sears of Valier and John Spiller and wife Mary Ann of Woodlawn; two daughters, Julie Adcock and husband Chris of Clarksville, Tenn., and Jennifer Heroux and husband Luke of Knoxville, Tenn.; nine grandchildren, Eli, Nate, Ivy and Phoenix Spiller, Caden Phillips, Cain Adcock, Isiah and Rosalen Heroux and Kresten Brown; three brothers, Marvin Spiller and wife Georgia of Texas, Bob Spiller and wife Phyllis of California, and Jim Spiller and wife Dena of Sesser; sister-in-law, Marcia Spiller of Mt. Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Beulinda Spiller; and infant son, Marion Spiller; and one brother, Leb Spiller.
Rick was a correctional officer at Big Muddy River Correctional Center in Ina. He was a member of St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon, and he loved his grandkids, the outdoors, hunting, and working his bird dogs.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon with the Very Rev. John Iffert officating. Interment will be in Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hughey Funeral Home. A rosary service will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Friends may also call from 9 a.m. until the service time at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church.
For those who wish, memorials may be given to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to St. Mary Catholic School and will be accepted at the funeral home or mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, Ill., 62864.
