Stephen Ray Patterson, 61, of Mt. Vernon, died 9:55 p.m. Friday, June 21, 2013, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
He was born Tuesday, Oct. 2, 1951, in Jefferson County, the son of George Robert "Bob" and Jennie Kathleen (Short) Patterson. He married Marie Little on Sept. 4, 2004, in Mt. Vernon; she survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Todd Stephen Patterson and wife Lisa of Jacksonville, Fla., and ryan Adrian Patterson of Anderson, Ind.; a daughter, Roni Jop Patterson of Lincoln, Neb.; three stepdaughters, Tami Vanarsdall and husband Mike of Eagle, Neb., Hope Foley and husband Rod of Greenfield, Ind., and Kimberly January and husband John of Mt. Vernon; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and 23 nieces and nephews including Cassie Decker and husband Steve of Anderson, Ind., Shay Haskins of Anderson, Ind., Rachel January of Woodlawn, Kelley Patterson of Texas and Rob Patterson of Texas; a brother, Robert Patterson and wife Linda of Mt. Vernon; two uncles, Adrian Biggerstaff of Mt. Vernon and Bill Short of Nashville; and a special friend, Carol Walden of Anderson, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a stepson, Karl David Larcom.
Stephen worked as a truck driver for Leon Finkbone Trucking and was of the Baptist faith. He loved fishing, playing his guitar and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, at Hughey Funeral Home, Mt. Vernon with Tom Many Falcons Little officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Mt. Vernon.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, at Hughey Funeral Home.
