MT. VERNON —
Paul W. Nelson, 88, of Mt. Vernon, died 9:50 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon.
He was born Thursday, Aug. 14, 1924, in Waltonville, the son of Fred and Effie (Johnson) Nelson. He married Freda Ellis in Mt. Vernon in 1947, and she preceded him in death in 1972.
Paul was a machinist for ITT Bell & Gossett in Morton Grove and was a member of Apostolic Tabernacle of Deliverance in Mt. Vernon.
He is survived by nieces and nephews, Gerald Mayo of Mt. Vernon, Bobby Duncan and Frank Duncan of Sulphur, Okla., Cindy Green of Little Rock, Ark. and Robin Solzak of Gibson City, Okla.; and brother-in-law, Robert Duncan of Midwest City, Okla.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sister and brother-in-law, Mary L. and Loren Mayo; sister, Guelda Duncan; and two nephews, Stan Mayo and David Duncan.
Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Harmony Cemetery in Jefferson County. Interment will be at Harmony Cemetery in Jefferson County.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
