---- — Ernestine E. R. Bee, age 84, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 8:57 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013, at Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor in Mt. Vernon.

Ernestine was born in Mt. Vernon on Sept. 9, 1929, the daughter of Milton B. Grooms and Clara Bel H. (Jackson) Grooms. She was united in marriage to Jesse L. Bee Sr. of Chicago, in which they had three sons.

Ernestine is survived by her sons, Jesse Lewis Bee Jr. of Chicago, Gregory R. Bee and wife Alberta of Cleveland and Floyd R. Bee of Mt. Vernon; four grandchildren, Gregory R. Bee and wife Melanie of Centralia, Craig A. Bee and wife Amy of Centralia, Paul M. Bee and wife Krystal of South Field, Mich. and Clara Bee of Mt. Vernon; 13 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and also several nephews, nieces, cousins and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Milton K. Grooms.

Ernestine worked part-time down town after school as an elevator operator in John R. Rogers building and she helped in the Jefferson Memorial Hospital after school as well. She graduated from Mt. Vernon Township High School and majored in music. She played the trumpet and cornet in the band and orchestra. She received a first in state contest and received a second in district.

She worked as a licensed practical nurse for 24 years in Chicago, at Cook County Hospital. She worked at Mt. Vernon Care Nursing Home as a night supervisor for 5.5 years and Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon for ten years. She also received a license for alcohol and drug abuse counseling at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Mich. She worked in detox for drug and alcohol abuse for over five years.

Funeral services for Ernestine Bee will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church, 1026 Newby in Mt. Vernon, with the Rev. William Ronald Lash officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Mt. Vernon.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time on Tuesday at the church.
