---- — Robert M. "Red" Davis, 79, of Mt. Vernon, died 2:50 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon.
He was born July 31, 1934, in Mt. Vernon, the son of Claude and Avva (Lowry) Davis. He married Thelma V. Crunk on Dec. 23, 1956, in Mt. Vernon; she preceded him in death Feb. 6, 2002.
He is survived by two sons, Robert A. Davis and wife Denise of Opdyke and Michael E. Davis and wife Marquetta of Alvin, Texas; a grandson, Tyler Davis of Opdyke; two granddaughters, Kelly Rodriquez and husband Joe of Alvin, Texas and Amanda Davis of Alvin, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Richard and Destiny Rodriquez of Alvin, Texas; a sister, Peggy Teague of New Port Richey, Fla.; a brother, Larry Rockett and wife Barbara of Smyrna, Tenn.; a sister-in-law, Gladys Davis of Tampa, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Thelma; a brother, Charles Davis; and his stepfather, Rufus Rockett.
Red worked coal mine construction and also worked at Stewart Mobile Homes with the delivery and set up service for 13 years and later was a custodian at Mt. Vernon Township High School. Red was a member of Community of Christ Church in Mt. Vernon and the Mt. Vernon Eagles Aerie Lodge 2791.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Bud Storey officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
