Robert L. “Bob” Decker, 86, of McLeansboro, died at 12:58 p.m. Monday, March 31, 2014, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon.
He was born on July 19, 1927, in Mt. Vernon, the son of John T. and Maude (Gerard) Decker. On March 31, 1945, he married Mary Evelyn Spilmon, who preceded him in death.
He is survived by six daughters, Mary Ann Hilliard and fiance George May of Springfield, Melissa Dawn Browning and husband Leroy of McLeansboro, Sharry Hill and husband Donald of McLeansboro, Mindy Hanks and husband William of McLeansboro, Angela Stoller and husband Mark of Sudbury, Mass., and Marla Ferguson and husband Darrell of Missouri; two sisters, Anita Hayes of Mt. Vernon and Jean Flannigan of Florida; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers and one sister.
Mr. Decker was a retired brick mason. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He along with his late wife served as foster parents for many young children during the 1970s and 1980s. He was a member of Crossroads Church of Christ where he served as song leader for many years.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 3, 2014, at the Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Robert Sefried officiating. Interment will be in Brady Cemetery in Akin with graveside military rites provided by American Legion Post 106 of McLeansboro.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
