Johnny Duane Thomas, Sr., 55, of Mt. Vernon, died 7:35 a.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at White Oak Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Mt. Vernon.
He was born Wednesday, July 30, 1958, in Mt. Vernon, the son of Robert L. Thomas, Sr. and Betty Louise (Webb) Thomas. He was married to Tracey Sandy.
Johnny worked as a tree trimmer.
He is survived by five children, Carrissa Pigg and husband Warren of Bossier, La., Johnny Thomas, Jr. of Mt. Vernon, Tressa Thomas Easley of Mt. Vernon, Jonathan Thomas of Mt. Vernon and Damien Thomas of Mt. Vernon; stepdaughter, Amber Talley and husband Matt of Mt. Vernon; sister, Meca Peterson and husband Oram of Woodlawn; brother, Jimmy R. Thomas and wife Norma J. of Mt. Vernon; six grandchildren; two nieces; and three nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and one brother, Bobby Thomas.
Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at South Hickory Hill Cemetery in Jefferson County with Mr. Tracy Thomas officiating. Interment will be at South Hickory Hill Cemetery in Jefferson County.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
