---- — E. Ralph Smith, 83, longtime resident of Mt. Vernon, left to be with the Lord at 7:30 a.m. on April 1, 2014, in St. Louis. His passing was very peaceful among family and friends.
A devoted husband of 62 years, he is survived by lifelong loving wife Bess Smith nee Mary Elizabeth Campbell.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Alene (Bowden) Smith and father, Vernon Smith.
He is survived by his sister, Shirl (Smith) Schnake and husband Les; a legacy of four adoring children, daughter, Susan E. (Smith) Hubbard and husband Tom; granddaughters, Aliyah and Kaliya; son, Donald K. Smith and wife Patti; granddaughter, Julianna A Smith; grandson, Koree A.Smith and wife Angela; great-granddaughter, Prudence Smith; son, Scott L. Smith and wife Pat; granddaughter, Amy Denny and husband Steve; grandaughter, Kristen (Smith) Dively and husband Michael; great-granddaughter, Kaylee; and son, Ted B. Smith and wife Rebecca.
Ralph worked at King City Savings and Loan many years and retired from management at Walmart Mt. Vernon at 65. He became self taught master woodworker/furniture maker while suffering from Parkinson’s Disease
Visitation is 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Logan Street Baptist Church, 601 South 21st. on the corner of Logan and 21st, on Thursday. A memorial service will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
