Jerry F. Lyle, 79, of Fleming Island, Fla., died at 10:18 a.m. Sunday, June 9, 2013, at his home.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Hardage-Giddens The Oaklawn Chapel at 4801 San Jose Blvd. in Jacksonville, Fla. , with Pastor William (Bill) Register officiating. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Cemetery in Jacksonville, Fla.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Jerry was born on Aug. 30, 1933, in Mt. Vernon, to Robert B. and Elsie M. (Smithpeters) Lyle. He married Shirley Elizabeth Riley, who survives him, on Sept. 14, 1956, in Mt. Vernon.
In addition to his wife, he is also survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Cheryl and Jeff Davis of Fleming Island, Fla. and Denise Lyle of Orange Park, Fla.; two grandchildren, Stephanie (Brandon) Taylor of Jacksonville, Fla. and Steven Davis of Fleming Island, Fla.; a sister, Delores Powell of Mt. Vernon; and a nephew, Larry (Sharon) Powell of Mahomet.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
Mr. Lyle served his country proudly in the Air Force during the Korean War. He retired from CSX Transportation in 1992, after 31 years in the railroad industry. He was a very special husband, father, grandfather and friend to everyone he met. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by everyone whose life he touched.
