Mrs. Lorraine Skabialka, of Nashville and formerly of DuBois, departed this life at the Friendship Manor Healthcare Center in Nashville on Monday, March 4, 2013, at 8:55 a.m. She had attained the age of 85 years, 7 months and 9 days.
Mrs. Skabialka was born on July 26, 1927, in St. Louis, the daughter of Frank and Theresa (Kostecki) Smugala. She was united in marriage to Frank Skabialka on Aug. 30, 1947, in St. Louis, and he preceded her in death on March 7, 2001.
Lorraine worked at the Hollywood Brands Candy Factory for many years. She was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in DuBois and also the Teamster Local 50. Lorraine loved to play bingo, watching hummingbirds and being read to by her special little girl.
Left to mourn her passing are her two children, Phillip Skabialka and his wife Karla of Nashville and Judith Smolley and her husband Paul of Ashley; seven grandchildren, Stephanie, Gregory, Jeffrey and Kimberly Smolley and Michelle Chase, Jason Skabialka and Phillip Skabialka; seven great-grandchildren, Tabitha, Drew, Blake, Ryleigh, Dalton, Haleigh and Baleigh; a sister, Julia Laibel and her husband Robert of Florissant, Mo.; and several nieces, nephews, other relations and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Sylvester and Eugene; and two sisters, Clara Kelam and Dorothy Mazuranic.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at the St. Charles Catholic Church in DuBois at 10 a.m. Saturday with Father Oliver Nwachukwu officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Campagna Funeral Home in Ashley and from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.
A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Campagna Funeral Home.
Should friends desire, mass offerings or memorials can be made to the Heartland Hospice and will be accepted by the Campagna Funeral Home.
