---- — Pastor Donald L. Beckman, 81, of Mt. Vernon, died at 11:20 a.m. Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at his home in Mt. Vernon, surrounded by family and cherished loved ones.
He was born Jan. 19, 1932, in Worthington, Minn., a son of Bernard and Rose (Webber) Beckman. He married Joan Ringle on Sept. 14, 1957, in Edgar, Wis.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Beckman of Mt. Vernon; three daughters, Elizabeth Beckman and Greg Fuller of Lincoln, Katherine Cushing and husband Mark of Champaign, and Christine Pivirotto and husband Tony of Albuquerque, N.M.; eight grandchildren, Christi Cushing, Amanda Cushing and Carson Cushing, Mallery Lutey, Brianna Alvarez and Zachary Alvarez, Logan Pivirotto and Jordan Pivirotto; one great-grandson, Dawson Peratt; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Clarence, Elmer and Leon Beckman; one sister, Marian Krueger; two stepsisters, Lois Dueschle and Lucille Anctil; and one stepbrother, Harvey Gerdas.
Donald was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Emden. He attended Salem Lutheran Church in Salem and he was a member of the Miller Lake Association.
He was a hunter safety instructor and boater safety instructor for the state of Illinois.
He was a talented wood carver and enjoyed donating his hand-carved duck decoys to charity.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Emden with Pastor John Shurter officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery in Lincoln.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Visitation will also be held from noon until the service time Saturday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to CASA of Jefferson County or Salem Lutheran Church in Salem, and will be accepted at the funeral home or mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mount Vernon, Illinois 62864.
