Marcena “Bobbie” Riddle, 93, of Mt. Vernon, died 5:34 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013, at Crossroads Community Hospital in Mt. Vernon.
She was born Monday, Sept. 20, 1920, in Woodlawn, the daughter of Elbert “Bert” Riddle and Harriet “Hattie” (Coates) Riddle-Edwards.
Bobbie lived in Woodlawn, Mt. Vernon and St Louis and worked in Mt. Vernon and St. Louis. She loved animals, particularly cats and dogs and she cared for many throughout her life. She enjoyed her family, her friends and her animals. She was dearly loved by many and will be remembered with love by all who knew her.
She is survived by two nephews, George Foster and wife Carolyn Orr Foster of Richmond, Va. and Jerry Foster and wife Carolyn Wilkinson Foster of Baton Rouge, La.; niece, Mary Ann Foster-Goldberger of Baton Rouge, La.; cousin, Marcena Williams; very special friend, Linda Collins; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Linda Collins for her love, support and care for Bobbie through the years. And a special thanks to Mallory Farmer and Marcena Williams for their love and kindness.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, William “Billy” Edwards; and sister, Nola Riddle Foster.
In honor of Bobbie’s wishes, she will be anatomically donated to the SIU School of Medicine for scientific research.
A memorial service and inurnment of ashes will take place at Mt. Catherine Cemetery in Woodlawn at a later date.
