Karl Price



Karl D. Price, 81, of Mt. Vernon, died 7:54 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2013, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon.

He was born Tuesday, Dec. 22, 1931, in Avoca, Pa., the son of William "Bill" and Bernice Naomi (Thomas) Price. He married Barbara L. Earnheart on Sept. 8, 1951 at the First Baptist Church in Christopher.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara L. Price of Mt. Vernon; three children, Debra Bunchman and husband Robert of Greenville, S.C., Mark E. Price and fiance Kathi Steinkamp of Belleville and Keith D. Price and Paul McMahon of St. Louis; six grandchildren, Michele Morton and husband Keith of St. Louis, Matthew Price and wife Amanda of Fort Lewis, Wash., Lauren Blumenberg and husband Pat of Godfrey, Scott Bunchman and wife Lindsay of Atlanta, Stacy Bunchman of Rock Hill, S.C., and Alison Bunchman and fiance Stewart Twilley of Greenville, S.C.; four great-grandchildren, Juliana Morton, Alayna Morton, Lola Morton and Quinn Morton; a stepgrandchild, Wyatt Blumenberg; four sisters-in-law, Evelyn Hill, Barbara Price, Patricia Price and Joan Earnhart; several nieces and nephews; and many special friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a mother-in-law, Rachel Earnheart; a father-in-law, Lester Earnheart; two brothers, Jerry and Ronald Price; and three brothers-in-law, Bill Earnhart, Raymond Earhart and Farrell Hill.

Karl served our country as a corporal in the United States Army. He was a member of Mt. Vernon Masonic Lodge 31 for over 50 years, the Ainad Shrine Temple of East St. Louis, and the Jefferson County Shrine Club. He worked as a CPA for many years until he retired in November 2012. Over the years he served on many boards including the Epilepsy Board, United Methodist Children's Home Foundation Board, Jefferson County Mental Health 708 Board and the United Way Board. He was a member of Logan Street Baptist Church and had been since 1958. During his membership at Logan Street, he served as a Sunday school teacher and the church treasurer. Karl loved boating and taught many kids how to ski.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Mr. J. Howard Kraps officiating. Interment will be at Maple Hill Cemetery in Sesser. A flag presentation will be conducted by the chaplain of American Legion Post 141 at the cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. A Jefferson County Shrine walk-through will take place at 8 p.m. following the visitation.

For those who wish, memorials may be given to the Shriners Hospital for Children, Good Samaritan SSM Hospice or Logan Street Baptist Church and will be accepted at the funeral home or mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
