Adrian Lee Thackrey, 85, of Lima, died at 11:02 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at St. Rita’s Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 14, 1928, in Hamilton County, the son of Adrian and Maryphene Rockett Thackrey. He married Benita B. Brasel on July 3, 1953, and she survives in Lima.
Mr. Thackrey had worked in sales of oil field equipment for COFSCO of New York and Midway Supply in Lima, formerly U&I Supply. Lee was a member of Harvey’s Point Christian Church of Salem, the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans. He received a purple heart while serving in the U.S. Army 1st Cavalry Division during the Korean Conflict. Lee was a registered genealogist and a member of the National Genealogical Society. He also was a 32nd degree Mason.
He is survived by five beloved sons, Jeffrey Thackrey of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., David Thackrey of Columbus, Ohio, Douglas (Kris) Thackrey of Lima, Gregory (Dawn) Thackrey of Carmel, Ind. and Randy Thackrey of Indianapolis; three granddaughters he adored, Brianne, Katie and Rachael; two brothers, William (Irene) Thackrey of Mt. Vernon and Max (Ann) Thackrey of Richmond, Ky.; and a sister, Mary Jo (Wilburn) Davis of Barrington.
Lee was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Thackrey.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Bayliff and Son Funeral Home, Cridersville.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Charlotte Hefner officiating. Burial will follow in St. Matthew Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association.
