Bert Lappin

---- — Bert Lappin, 74, of Iuka and a former resident of Waltonville, passed away 1:12 p.m. Monday, April 22, 2013, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon.

Bert was born May 6, 1938, in Bonnie, a son of Joe and Maudie Ann (Woolard) Lappin. He married Margie Ann (Russell) on Sept. 15, 1962, in Waltonville and she survives in Iuka.

Bert was a coal miner for Freeman United Mine 6 Waltonville until retirement. He was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church in Bonnie. He was a proud member of the U.M.W.A. Local 1591 and also a member of the Oliver Tractor Club. He most of all loved his family and his little dog Dodger.

He is survived by his wife, Margie Lappin of Iuka; five daughters, Sharon Lowery of Waltonville, Rhonda Swarts of Lawrenceburg, Ky., Loretta and husband Jeff Switzer of Mt. Vernon, Teresa May and husband Matt of Clay City and Stephanie and husband Curtis Randall of Gloucester, Va; two brothers, Fred Lappin of Sesser and Jerry Lappin and wife Mary of Scheller; three sisters, Joann and husband Gene Frick of Bonnie, Brenda and husband Dennis Best of Lucas, Texas and Linda and husband Bob Frisch of Scheller; 11 grandchildren, Rachael Thomas, Andrea Lowery, Anthony Lowery, Nathan Shietze, Chelsea Gindelle, Hannah Shietze, Joshua Switzer, Jordan Switzer, Thomas May, Shelby May, and Jolie Randall; seven great-grandchildren; and also many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Ernie, Melton, and Danny Lappin; and two sisters, Wanda Weills and Sybil Sledge.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Newell Funeral Home in Waltonville with Pastor Gale Lowery officiating. Burial will follow at Knob Prairie Cemetery in Waltonville.

Visitation will be held from 12 p.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.

For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Knob Prairie Cemetery and will be accepted at the funeral home.
