Clarence Cleveland “Pops” Yost, 72, of Dix, died at 3:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, at his home.
He was born Jan. 26, 1941, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He met Julie Marie Ellis in 1995, and on July 4, 1996, in Salem, they were married. She survives in Dix.
He enjoyed gemstones and jewelry and playing X-Box with his grandsons. He travelled most of the United States before moving to Salem in 1993. He was always willing to help those he could and was a “father” to many children who adopted him.
He is survived by his wife, Julie Yost of Dix; one son, James Ellis and fiancée Beth Bourque of Centralia; three grandchildren, Tristan Riddle, Kaleb Marshall and Wyatt Marshall, all of Centralia; best friend, Mark Atkins of Kankakee; mother-in-law, Vanita Ina (Minor) Ellis of Mt. Vernon; sister-in-law, Carol Anderson and husband Dennis of Mt. Vernon; nephew, Brian Anderson and his significant other Kimberly Mullinax of Mt. Vernon; and three great-nephews, Braydon Anderson, Kevin Anderson and Andon Hudler.
He was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Vanita L. (Weda) Ellis and a good friend, Tom Crooks of Centralia.
As per his wishes, Mr. Yost’s body was cremated and a memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at Osborn Funeral Home in Dix with Marty Mills officiating.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until the time of the service on Thursday.
