---- — Walter R. Schulte, 93, of Mt. Vernon, passed on to the Celestial Lodge AB, at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, at the Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor Residential Center in Mt. Vernon.
He was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II, serving with the 15th Air Force, 306th Fighter Command in Italy. He was born in Chicago on Dec. 7, 1920.
He was commander of V.F.W. Post 5081 Bellwood and also the first commander of V.F.W. Post 10483 Hot Springs Village, Ark. He was a member of Lombard Masonic Lodge 1098, a member of Medinah Shrine of Chicago and a member of the M.S.V. Shrine Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William F. and Marie (Hiedenbluth) Schulte; his daughter, Janice Bedell; and a brother, Willie Schulte.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, married 69 years; three daughters, Carol Mosley and husband Gary of Mt. Vernon, Robin Rothamer and husband Michael of DeKalb and Susan Naydenoff and husband Jim of Wheaton; one sister, Laverne Anagos and husband Charles of Palatine; grandchildren, Michael Mosley and wife Kathy of Edgewood, Tara Whitfield and husband Antoine of Mt. Vernon, Laurie Loyfe and husband Kurt of Frisco, Texas, Carrie Alberson and husband Scott of Elk Grove Village, Sarah Klan and husband David of West Chicago and Carrie Wolfe and husband Patrick of Fresno, Calif.; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
In honor of his wishes, he will be cremated and a celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
