Mary Helen Barker Severs, 88, of McLeansboro, passed away 4:45 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, at Hamilton Memorial Nursing Center in McLeansboro.
She was born Nov. 25, 1925, in Aden, the daughter of G. N. Redmon and Mary Mariah (Wilson) Redmon. She married Edward “Tex” Barker and he preceded her in death in 1971. She married Cyrus Severs in 1997 and he preceded her in death in 2007.
She was a presser for Elder Manufacturing and was a cook for the “Hucks” store in McLeansboro. She was a member of Olive Branch Missionary Baptist Church in Wayne City. She loved to garden especially flowers. She loved reading and watching gospel programs on television. She loved to cook for her family.
She is survived by daughter, Susan Rich and husband Larry of Wayne City; son, Steve Barker and wife Cheryl of McLeansboro; two stepsons, Ronald Severs and wife Lila of Sawyer, Minn. and Robert Severs of Sawyer, Minn.; stepdaughter, Cindy Elliot and husband Kevin of Hanna City; three grandsons, Scott Rich of Marion, Shane Barker and Lisa of Dale and Shawn Barker and wife Staci of McLeansboro; stepgrandsons, Corey Seers of Peoria and Kristopher and Shenandoah Severs of Sawyer, Minn.; stepgranddaughters,Jeanine Severs of Peoria and Jody Elliot of Hanna City; three sisters, Hazel Buchanan of Paragould, Ark., Floann Hart (husband Kenny) of McLeansboro and Linda Dickey (husband Bob) of Wayne City; two brothers, Everett Redmon of Springerton and Roy Redmon of McLeansboro; four great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, G. N. and Mary Wilson Redmon; husbands, Edward “Tex” Barker and Cyrus Severs; sisters, Shirley Lovell and Ruby Jean Sefried; and brothers, Marvin, Ronnie and Orville Eugene Redmon.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Robert Sefried and the Rev. Mike Fields officiating. Interment will be at Crouch Cemetery in Belle Prairie.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hamilton Memorial Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, McLeansboro and will be accepted at the funeral home.
